Complete guide to surgical lights

Definition of surgical lights

Surgical lights are lights used in operating rooms. Because they have special functions, specifically the function of not being blocked by shadows, they are also called shadowless lights

History of surgical lights

Edison invented the filament, which was the greatest contribution to lights. Therefore, with the development of lights, surgical lights appeared. Surgical lights have evolved from ugly, short-lived hole-type lamps to integral reflective shadowless lamps with limited bulb life that require replacement of bulbs to LED disc-type shadowless lamps. Surgical lights have also evolved from carbon arc lamps to electrical lighting eras, to halogen bulbs, to today’s LED surgical lights, which are more energy-saving, longer-lived, more stable, and brighter.

Structure of surgical lights

Surgical lights are mainly composed of a base, a central axis, a rotating arm, a balancing arm, a curved pipe, a control panel, a disinfection handle, and imported lamp beads. With the development of technology, surgical lights have become more intelligent and equipped with display screens.

Types of surgical lights

With the development of technology, the most commonly used surgical lights are LED surgical lights

1. LED disc-type shadowless lamp

Led disc-type shadowless lamp, round, uses LED cold light source, the life span can reach more than 60,000 hours, no need to replace the light source, the color temperature can be adjusted from 3500K to 5000K in six gears, and has a one-button laparoscope mode, which can remember the last state without repeated adjustment, and the accuracy and convenience of use are guaranteed.

LED disc-type shadowless lamps are divided into fixed-focus and adjustable-focus models. The fixed-focus model is a fixed light spot adjusted according to the type of surgery at the factory. There is no way to adjust it later. It uses Osram lamp beads. The fixed-focus model has 80 lamp beads for 700 and 48 lamp beads for 500.

2. LED petal-type shadowless lamp

LED petal-type shadowless lamp, shaped like a petal, uses LED cold light source, the life span can reach more than 60,000 hours, and has two types of 5-petal lamp heads and 3-petal lamp heads. The 5-petal lamp head has 61 lamp beads and the 3-petal lamp head has 39 lamp beads. The spectrum is stable, there is no infrared and ultraviolet rays, and no heat source is generated. The petal-shaped fully enclosed fluid shape is more aerodynamic, completely eliminating the dead angle caused by air flow.

3. Led camera system shadowless lamp

With the development of technology, shadowless lamps have also added many functions. New shadowless lamps with camera systems have appeared. Camera system shadowless lamps are divided into built-in camera systems and external camera systems. The camera will not affect the use of surgical lamps.

4. Movable shadowless lamp

In order to facilitate the use of small operating rooms such as clinics, a portable and movable surgical lamp has been specially developed. The base is supported by four wheels, the casters are equipped with foot brakes, and it has a battery function. It can still be used when the power is off and automatically switched.

Features of surgical lights

Surgical lights have no shadows, no infrared and ultraviolet radiation, and no heat. In addition, the balance arm of the surgical light is very precise, and the gap between the shaft sleeve is thinner than a hair, which ensures absolute balance and stability. The lampshade reaches the aviation level, which can prevent dust deposition and strictly ensure the environment of the operating room.

Application of surgical lights

Surgical lights are mainly used in hospitals and clinics, mainly in operating rooms.

Installation of surgical lights

The size of the shadowless lamp is determined by the size of the operating room. If the area is more than 15 square meters, choose a double-head style, and if it is less than 15, choose a single-head style. The shadowless lamp confirms the distance from the ceiling to the roof (the bracket of the shadowless lamp) and the distance from the ceiling to the ground as needed. After confirming the distance, you only need to install the welding frame.
